The InterimCMO manifesto
Credibility and precision before scale.
More activity will not fix weak positioning or inaccurate targeting. Cybersecurity products are difficult to explain, their buyers are specialized, and much of the evidence that matters is incomplete or invisible. Generic automation can produce more activity while moving farther from the truth.
Technical complexity changes the GTM problem.
Generic personas, shallow technographics, and simplified buying journeys break down in cybersecurity. Domain context is not a finishing layer; it determines whether the work is useful at all.
Product marketing is the foundation.
AI and martech can multiply strong positioning, buyer understanding, messaging, proof, and differentiation. They cannot replace them. Automation amplifies whatever coherence or inconsistency is already in the system.
Earn buyer credibility before you scale.
Technical buyers quickly recognize imprecise language, shallow claims, and missing context. Get the buyer, problem, terminology, proof, and technical details right before increasing reach or automation.
Humans control consequential decisions.
AI may research, propose, build, and operate within defined boundaries. Humans set direction, approve consequential actions, and periodically audit both the system and its output.
